Diploma in Operation Theater & Anesthesia Technology : The program is conducted to meet the continuous growing needs for experts in the field of operation management and anesthesia technology. The operation theater and anesthesia technologists are responsible for direct and indirect patient care, setting up of equipment and operation procedures. They assist surgeons during the procedures and are responsible for completing other assigned functions. The students of Diploma in Operation Theater & Anesthesia Technology are trained on both theoretical and practical aspects on operation theatre and anesthesia thereby assisting surgeons during operation and other procedures. Besides, assisting surgeons, the program also teaches on how to look after surgical instruments and their sterilisation and safety. Thus the aim of Diploma in Operation Theater & Anesthesia Technology course is to create proficient technicians for both operation theaters and anesthesia.
The course : Diploma in Operation Theater & Anesthesia Technology is of three-year duration encompassing theory and practice as well as study of subjects like Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Ethics, Intensive care, Clinical Microbiology, Pharmacology, CSSD techniques and Anesthetic techniques. The Diploma in Operation Theater & Anaesthesia Technology also has guest lectures, seminars from eminent doctors and healthcare leaders, to help students understand the insights and criticality of operation theater and anesthesia techniques. The students have flexibility in choice of courses and can chose courses from other disciplines as well, but without prior approval. Graduates from the program are required across all hospitals that conduct surgeries. The course is currently offered at both diploma and degree levels. Depending on the need of the students, they can choose either modes of the program, however requirements varies for both the levels.
Career Scope:
Surgery has become an integral part of global health care, with an estimated 231 million operations performed yearly. Employment opportunities are widely available in OTs at hospitals, day care surgical units, nursing homes, Intensive Care Units. Employment opportunities are also available in the Government sector. If a candidate is applying to a job in foreign countries, such as USA or UK, the remuneration is much higher than it is in India.
Operation Theater Technologists are required across all hospitals for conduct of surgeries which include General Surgery, Ophthalmic Surgery, Orthopedics Surgery, Gynecology Surgery, Plastic Surgery, ENT surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardio Therapy Surgery, Spinal Surgery, and Urology etc.
Eligibility Criteria
10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry & Biology as compulsory subjects, having obtained at least 40% marks in the above subjects taken together.
